Kermit has a unique functionality: it is writable
All text set in Kermit is instantly writable, as it has the writing dynamics built in (speed variations, correct ductus, offstrokes, ink bleed, etc.). As Kermit is technically still a typeface, it still has all the advantages of a static font. For example, you could have your headlines of your Wordpress blog automatically nicely written from left to right. Kermit has all the advantages a typeface has for text (Unicode support, machine translation, etc) but on top of that all writing dynamics are included in the font file.
The website kermit-font.com is a mini-site dedicated to the typeface Kermit and allows anybody to experience the writable fonts already now, also teachers who want to make their own test and experiments for example. Only while working with the writable fonts, you can experience that the dynamics are as much designed as the outlines.
Remarkable writing technology
Underware has been dreaming for years of a new kind of writing instrument that would allow for a different way of writing, but one that would produce results as beautiful as the human hand. That is why we have developed our own tools that allow fonts to be writable. This results in super smooth frame rates, crisp Beziers outlines and an even smoother flow of ‘ink’. To achieve this, the writable version is always the starting point in the design process, and from there the ‘traditional’ variable fonts are generated, and from there the static fonts are generated.

In case you want to experience other writable fonts than Kermit, please visit Scribomat. Scribomat lets you scribe any text. Type your own text, select style (a handful of styles is currently available to choose from), press Enter (or click the Scribe button) and a written text is automatically generated for you. Voilà, as simple as that.
We still try to stay cool, but meanwhile our heads are jumping apart with enthusiasm (and a little pride) because of this dynamic font that marks another step in our development. If you are also as excited to get started with writable fonts, just let us know and we can discuss the options for implementation.
