26 was written and published by Underware on the occasion of the one-day symposium TypeAmsterdam on 3 October 2019, organised by Mathieu Lommen at the Allard Pierson Institute of the University of Amsterdam.

This publication is an elaboration of the talk Underware held during the book presentation of Gerard Unger’s Theory of type design on 6 September 2018 at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. Theory of type design is the last book by Gerard Unger (22 January 1942 – 23 November 2018).

A limited edition of 26 copies is hand-bound by Tessa Bekker, each of them features a different speculative, unpublished typeface by Gerard Unger on its cover.
